Quarry Road is a year-round outdoor recreation destination for people of all ages, abilities and walks of life from the greater Waterville area, across Maine and beyond.
The area offers 10.4 km (6.5 miles) of world-class groomed Nordic ski trails, and additional miles of backcountry snowshoe and hiking trails. Our state-of-the-art snowmaking system ensures an early start to the ski season and reliable snow conditions all winter.
Quarry Road Recreation Area is owned and operated by the City of Waterville Department of Parks & Recreation.
Friends of Quarry Road, a 501(c)(3) non-profit, works collaboratively with the City to provide guidance, raise capital, and assist in operations, upkeep, and oversight. Please join us.
Current Trail Conditions
Trail conditions are currently good in most areas for walking, running, and biking. All trails are open, including several new sections that were completed late last year:
1) The Susan Childs Boat Launch: a carry-in boat launch and dock, located just behind the maintenance building. (Join us June 3 for the dedication ceremony.)
2) The Hawthorn Trail, a footpath though the lowlands along Messalonskee Stream between the boat launch and the Far Meadow. This area may take a while longer to dry out, though the addition of woodchips has made it mostly passable.
3) Two miles of purpose-built mountain bike singletrack within the North Koons Loop. Currently the best access point is near the warming hut at the start of the North Koons loop.
4) Wally's Way, a 1-mile loop extending off the far end of North Koons. It was a big hit with skiers this winter, and also makes a good backcountry hike/bike experience.
We'll be posting an updated trail map soon showing these additions (and more to come).
Please note that there are still some potholes and other damage from spring runofff. We'll be working on getting those filled and fixed over the next couple weeks.
Friends of Quarry Road thanks our 2017 gold sponsors for making this season possible:
