Did you know that Maine has some of the darkest skies east of the Mississippi? Join the Waterville Youth Council and Northern Stars Planetarium for a special Dark Sky Week Star Party at Quarry Road!
Astronomer John Meader will guide us through the night sky and tell some star stories, while Maine Master Naturalist Serena Sanborn will have a spring frog exploration to discover the calls we hear around Quarry Road. Together, we’ll explore why protecting dark skies matters for wildlife, people, and our sense of wonder.
We recommend bringing a headlamp with a red-light setting if you have one, along with warm layers and sturdy water proof shoes.
In the event of clouds or rain, we’ll move indoors to the Paul J. Schupf Art Center at 93 Main St. for an indoor planetarium experience and projected night sky tour.
