Biking

Cyclists of all levels can find fun on two wheels at Quarry Road.

Wide gravel and grass paths in the meadows provide excellent walking and biking for active families, beginning cyclists, and those with limited mobility.  The River Loop trails offers rolling hills and opportunity for an invigorating aerobic workout or a leisurely ride enjoying the views of the stream for more casual cyclists. The North and South Koons loops provide spacious but challenging climbs and thrilling descents.

Miles of purpose-built singletrack provide ample challenge and excitement for mountain bikers of all abilities, including a climb to fantastic views from the top of the old Colby Ski Area.

A small pump track near the Welcome Center provides a fun and challenging venue for improving your mountain bike skills in a controlled environment.

The Central Maine chapter of the New England Mountain Bike Association (CeMeNEMBA) is a key partner in building and maintaining the singletrack bike trails at Quarry Road.

Quarry Road Trails has also served as the venue for Central Maine Cycling Club cyclocross races and the Central Maine Cycling Club Junior Dirt Riders youth mountain bike program for young mountain bikers of all ages and abilities.

E-Bike POLICY

Per Maine law:

Paddling

Quarry Road’s location along Messalonskee Stream makes it a perfect paddling destination and adds to the diversity of outdoor opportunities available to visitors. The Susan Child Boat Launch provides a sizable dock and hand-carry access for canoes, kayaks, and rowing shells. The boat launch is easily accessed from the Snowmaking Center parking lot.

The boat launch provides access to almost 5 miles of flatwater paddling on Messalonskee Stream as it wanders through woods and fields close to the center of Waterville and adjacent areas of Fairfield and Oakland.

Disc Golf

Quarry Road Trails features a full 18 hole course with 2 tee positions at each hole.

The disc golf course opens in mid to late May, when the ground in the meadow areas has dried out, and stays open until early November, when we start making snow for skiing.
